How to Install or Update EMIS Web

Overview
This article explains how to install EMIS Web on a new machine or update it on an existing one. These steps apply to standard EMIS Web environments used across NHS and healthcare settings.

Before You Begin

  • Ensure you have the appropriate permissions to install software on the device.
  • Close all running applications, especially any previous EMIS Web instances.
  • Confirm that the workstation meets EMIS Web’s minimum system requirements.
  • You may need access to the EMIS Health Support Portal or installation media.

Installation Steps

  1. Download or obtain the installer
    • If provided by EMIS directly, download the installer from the EMIS Health portal.
    • Alternatively, your IT team may provide a local copy or deployment method.
  2. Run the EMIS Web installer
    • Right-click the installer file and select “Run as administrator.”
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to begin the installation.
  3. Choose the installation path
    • Accept the default path unless your organisation requires a specific location (usually: C:\Program Files (x86)\Egton\EMIS Web).
  4. Complete the installation
    • The installer will set up the application and necessary components.
    • Once finished, click Finish to exit the installer.
  5. Launch EMIS Web
    • Use the EMIS Web shortcut on the desktop or Start Menu.
    • If prompted, enter your smartcard credentials or log-in details.

Update Steps

  1. Check for updates
    • EMIS Web typically checks for updates automatically.
    • Alternatively, log in and go to Help > About EMIS Web to view the current version.
  2. Apply updates
    • If an update is available, EMIS Web will prompt you to install it.
    • Follow the prompts and restart the application when complete.
  3. Manual updates (if required)
    • Occasionally, an update may be provided by your IT department or EMIS Support in the form of a patch or new installer.
    • Run the installer as described in the installation steps above.

Troubleshooting

  • Permissions Issues: Ensure you’re running the installer with administrative rights.
  • Smartcard Errors: Ensure the NHS Identity Agent is installed and up-to-date.
  • Missing Dependencies: Some updates require Microsoft .NET or other prerequisites—ensure these are installed.
